Our 1000th post: An ode to the girls weekend

My girl cousins.  My sister's on the far left and I'm right next to her.

I can't believe it's our 1000th post!  It's such a milestone.  It's hard to believe this is where we started.  Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone that's ever read this blog, liked a post, tweeted a post, commented on a post.  And most of all thanks to everyone that's contributed their stories.  A special thanks to 20 LA Wannabe who started blogging for us back in July and has written more posts than any other contributor!

In honor of this milestone, I'd like to devote this post to the greatest remedy for a bad break-up.  The girls weekend (AKA the dudes weekend if you are reading this and you have a penis.)

I've been lucky to grow up with a bunch of amazing female cousins (many who are not pictured above) and it's become a tradition of ours to try and get together once a year.  Today, five us are on the road together to visit another cousin in Reno (yes, she lives in Reno.  Guys, it's so much cooler than you think).

So, here are the top ten reasons you should email all your friends and organize a girls weekend right now:

10.  Your girlfriends do not care about unwanted body hair!  It's like two days where you don't have to worry about shaving your legs.  We would, however, still like you to shave your bikini line if we're going to a public pool.  Or any pool. Or the beach.  Or any body of water.

9. You get to be your best goofy self without worrying about seeming lame or immature around a dude.  For example, one of our personal favorite games: take pictures with random guys in bars and make your best super weirded out/annoyed face.  This game doesn't really work if you've had a lot of Botox.
8. You get to do all that stuff your significant other wouldn't be caught dead doing with you.    Like the last time we all got together in Reno, we went to see Mamma Mia in the movie theaters (Abba holds a special place in our hearts).  Let's just say that it may have been the best two hours of my life. Minus the scenes of Pierce Brosnan singing.

7. You get to talk and talk and talk and talk and talk.  Guys fall asleep after awhile.  Girls don't.  We stay awake for conversation.  And we can talk about anything.  Nail polish.  Our deepest hopes and fears.  Yeast infections.  Sex.  Brangelina.  The list goes on and on.

6. Girlfriends compliment each other ALL THE TIME (unless your friends are bitches, in which case, I can't help you.)  We spend most of our evenings telling one another how cute and sexy and stylish and awesome we are. Sure, sometimes we're just saying it to be nice, but who cares!  (side note: my cousins are all hot so I get to say those things to them and actually mean it).

5. Girls weekends are that rare time of year when your friends who are married or have kids are FUN again.  They're not excusing themselves to leave early, because they're chomping at the bit to get home to their significant others-- or because they told the sitter they'd be home by 10pm.   If anything, they're so excited to have a weekend off from family responsibilities that they get crazy wild.

4. The playlist.  It's inevitable that the weekend will be filled with lots of girly music.  Or songs from the 90s that have sentimental meaning.  Or Abba.  Lots and lots of Abba.

3. The road trip.  What's that saying?  It's not the destination, it's the journey?  I LOVE a good road trip with girlfriends.  We basically pass the time maximizing #7, #6, and #4 on this list, but we get to do those things while eating Pringles and beef jerky.

2.  If you regularly partake in Girls weekends, then you will never end up being that female that can't get along with other women.  Which means that if you ever decide to be a contestant on The Bachelor, you'll totally get along swimmingly with all the other women.

1. Slumber Party version 3.0.  Except instead of just sleeping over at one of our parent's houses, we're in a fancy hotel.  With booze.  And good restaurants.  And a spa day.  And a mini bar.  And hot guys (if you're single).  It's where childhood nostalgia meets adult awesomeness. What could be better than that?

  1. Congrats on post 1000! It's been my pleasure contributing. To 1000 more xx

  2. I gotta say, I've always loved and been impressed by this site. 1000 posts is amazing, since they've all been quality, even tho I don't really read the Bachelor posts, but it's obvious you work hard on them. Well done, Saara. I'm proud to have known you.

    1. Thanks Evan! And thanks for giving me material for at least one of those posts :)
