How Do You Break Up With Your F*%& Buddy?

How do you break up with your f*ck buddy?  This isn't so much a how-to post, it's more of a how do I do this post.  I don't want to have a f*ck buddy...I need one.  Of course I'd prefer to be in a relationship.

Some people argue that when you're filling your time up with someone that's wrong for you it doesn't leave room for someone good to come into your life.  But there have been plenty of times that I have foregone having a f*ck buddy and no one good still came into my life.  So I was alone, stressed and sexually frustrated.  Plus, I'm a very sexual person so when I'm already having sex with someone where there's no potential for a relationship, it curbs my sex drive so I don't jump into bed with a guy that I'm dating that I like too soon.

So what's a single girl who's at the end of her twenties (tear) to do?  Do I keep the f*ck buddy or say au revior?  If I decide to end it, how do I "break up" with him?  I guess I could just leave 4am texts unanswered and after parties unattended but that doesn't seem very tactful regardless of the fact that he isn't my boyfriend.

Any and all advice is appreciated.
XO,
Wannabe

  1. I just had to do this last week. It's not so easy. I let 'mine' know as we starting seeing each other that this was just going to be FWB. As he continued to get more and more invested (and clingy), I told him we needed to go on the PAUSE button. He's been pretty cool with this (since he sort of assumes pause can be put back in play).

  2. Take a lesson from corporate America. Let him know that you've streamlined operations and can no longer offer benefits.

  3. I've had two successful FWB that lasted 6+ months and didn't take me off the market because I ended up in a long term relationship and had to end things. I just stop returning the late night texts. :)

  4. I want to know why this guy is FWB material but not boyfriend material. I agree with anonymous on just not returning the texts or telling him you're seeing someone!

    1. There isn't enough space in these comments to go into the reasons...
