Four Things Friday

candy town, break up cards, roof garden, hollywood bowl
My most favorite thing this week is the fact that today is my nephew's second birthday.  It's nuts to think it's already been two years since my sister gave birth to him just weeks before the H-bomb and I got married.  It was a crazy, stressful, happy time of milestones and it's been so amazing to watch him grow up into the adorable little man that he is (my nephew, not the H-bomb).  BUT I'm not sure him turning two will do anything to ease your dating or break-up woes.  So, on to things like sugar and booze:

Candy Town (77 Berth, San Pedro, CA)
In a previous Four Things post, I mentioned one of soCal's hidden gems: the San Pedro Fish market.  We were there last weekend and we made sure to stop into Candy Town which is right next door.  Candy makes everything better, guys.  But what I love about Candy Town is that they have all the old popular candy from my childhood.  It takes me back to simpler times.  I mean, remember gum cigarettes?  I treated myself to some milk chocolate coconut haystacks.  Yum.  If they had a commercial they should totally play the song-- won't you take me to, Candy Town!                          (Get it?  Instead of Funky Town?)

Break-Up Cards
I love me some e-cards but sometimes you actually need a hard copy.  I saw this card in Broome Street General Store and kind of wish I had someone I could send it to.  I think about my mom and dad everyday, but that seems mean.  Should I freak out an old boyfriend from years and years ago who I don't speak to and send it to him as an experiment?  Possibly.  Anyway, I think when we decide to pour our hearts out to our exes it should be required that we always take the snail mail option and ALWAYS buy this card.  Don't forget to use FedEx so you can track the package like Film Girl did
The Roof Garden at the Peninsula (9882 S Santa Monica Blvd, Bev Hills  90212)
I had the pleasure of meeting up with some old Goodwin Games co-workers this week and I accidentally suggested the swanky rooftop at the Peninsula hotel in Bev Hills.  I'd never been there, so I didn't know quite how fancy it was going to be. But it was totally worth it, because it was gorgeous, everyone who worked there was really nice, and the sangria was out of this world.  I'm not usually a big sangria drinker, but their peach blossom sangria was to die for.  We had many a fun BLOW OFF conversation last night.  This is the perfect spot to go with a group of friends to commiserate about your latest break up.  And make sure to use the spa bathroom.  It's like the prettiest place on earth.
The Hollywood Bowl (2301 North Highland Avenue, Los Angeles, CA)
When it comes to the lifelong New York VS LA competition, I like to remember places in southern California like the Hollywood Bowl.  It's one of the most gorgeous venues you'll ever see a concert in.  Not only is it nestled in the Hollywood Hills, but the stage itself is gorgeous and according to Wikipedia, it's the largest natural amphitheater in the United States.  Take that Madison Square Garden!  It's also where Keith takes Amanda on their date in Some Kind of Wonderful-- so needless to say, it's an excellent date spot.  And an even better place to run into your old boyfriend with your new one.  Bryon (AKA H Bomb) and I met my bestie Alison and her boyfriend Jesse there on Sunday to see Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes (and Sun-Ra Akrestra, which Bry apparently really likes.  Who knew?)  The greatest thing about the Bowl is that you're actually allowed to bring your own booze inside the theater.  Like, as in bottles.  Jesse & Alison brought wine and we brought beer and we all lived happily ever after.  Also, if you need your faith in love and life renewed, I highly recommend watching the videos for Home and Man on Fire back to back, over and over again.

Anyway, happy weekend everyone! We're hosting a brunch at our place on Sunday and my current goal in life is to not have a mental breakdown while getting everything prepped. That is a lame goal. Your goal for the weekend should be to...have the best sex of your life!

    1. Vodka Vagina should pretty much be involved with everything except for funerals and family functions and there are even some exceptions in those cases.
