Older Men & the BLOW OFF

I've never been the girl that's into older men. Even as a child my crush was JTT instead of Brad Pitt. Most of the "older" guys I've dated have been only one or two years my senior. I went on one date in my early-twenties with a guy who was significantly older. He asked me if I wanted to ride bikes at the beach and go on a picnic and I replied with, "Can't we just go to a bar?" Most of the men I've dated have actually been younger than me by about two years. That's a whole separate issue that I would probably need about five posts to get through, but recently I've been finding myself attracted to older men.

Let me clarify.  Not so much older men in real life but older men that are famous. I found myself attracted to Mitt Romney (yes I'm as horrified as you are) when I watched his Netflix documentary, Mitt. I wasn't attracted to his politics. But I was attracted to him physically and even found him funny at moments. I was watching The Today Show and Michael Keaton was on. Let me preface this by saying that he is my all-time favorite Batman and when the original Batman is on let's hope that I don't have anything to do because I will be on the couch watching that movie for the next two hours. He's clearly aged since playing Bruce Wayne/The Caped Crusader but I still thought he was totally sexy.

So I did what most writers do when we procrastinate- I Googled him. And guess what? He's 62. Yeah. Sixty-fucking-two! And I'm still attracted to him and would totally go out with him if he asked. Not only is he a member of AARP but he has been for about a quarter of my life.

There's also House of Cards bad boys Frank Underwood and Doug Stamper. Not traditionally sexy but both older and powerful and pretty much run shit.

After I confided in a friend about my Mitt, Frank, Doug, and Michael attractions she replied that maybe I have daddy issues. First of all, GROSS. Secondly, I don't. My father was and still is a huge presence in my life and I couldn't have asked for a better one. I haven't experienced any sexual trauma in my life either. So why am I finding myself so attracted to these significantly older men?

I decided to revisit the fact that most of the guys I've dated have been younger and if they haven't been they acted younger and were at the very least less mature and responsible. So maybe it's not the actual age of it all, but that these men are old enough to have their shit together and be in control of their lives and could probably take care of me emotionally instead of vice versa. They are also more experienced sexually and it would be nice to find a guy who really know's what he's doing in that department instead of my guy being sloppy drunk and just trying to finish.

Yes, these older men are objectively still attractive but I think I'm attracted to the idea of their maturity more than anything else. But Michael Keaton, if you ever read this you should totally call me.

Have you guys ever dated or been attractive to much older men?
XO,
Wannabe

  1. I could write a book on the subject, Married a guy 9 years older. Dated up to 15 years older, but have also dated 10 and 20 years younger. Depending on your stage in life what you could be attracted to. Also, depending on your stage in life whether it works out or not, lol.

  3. I have gotten in a bad habit of dating younger guys, and it hasn't gotten me very far. I'm 33 and not attracted to anyone who looks "middle aged". But the "Politico" from SATC aka Roger Sterling from Mad Men = yum.

    1. I totally should've added him in! I'm sure there are tons I missed. I also have a thing for Tony Danza.

  4. I totally felt the same way about Mitt after watching the documentary, but I was still partial to his sons. I also have a serious Tony Danza crush. but Kevin Spacey does not do it for me at all. I would also probably prefer Sterling to Don Draper. Sterling just seems way more fun. But I'm a big no on Kevin Spacey. His sex scenes with Kate Mara in season one totally gave me the heebee-geebees.

  6. I'd like to clarify. It wasn't that Zoe was on the phone w/ her Dad that I liked. He just realllllly looked like he knew what he was doing. Also I'd like to add John Cusack to my list.
