"While the two of us have come to the mutual decision that we will no longer be partners in marriage, we remain partners in parenthood and are committed to jointly raising our three sons in a happy and healthy environment."
This one makes me sad. Gwen and Gavin are both 90s icons. I was listening to Bush in high school, while simultaneously rolling my eyes at anyone who liked No Doubt. By Hollywood standards, these two have been married for like a hundred years. Thirteen to be exact, but that's a huge marital milestone when you're both celebrities. What could have possibly gone wrong?!
Well, I think it's common knowledge that Gavin was a cheater and one of the reasons this marriage lasted so long was that Stefani turned a blind eye. Or maybe he just couldn't deal with the fact that if he wasn't married to her, he would probably be appearing in an episode of "Where Are They Now." Back in 1997, did anyone think she would have more career longevity than him? Between No Doubt, her solo records, her fashion line, her perfume... Gwen's a brand. Now name one solo Gavin Rossdale song. (Side note, Glycerine is one song I never seem to get sick of)
Despite all of these potential hurdles in their marriage, this divorce seems abrupt. They just had a baby a year and a half ago. And while everyone is calling the split "amicable", their statement sounds slightly cold and unfeeling to me. Gavin has admitted to being with men in the past. Was there a recent affair with a dude that Gwen couldn't get past? It's possible.
There's only one thing I can be sure of: Gwen Stefani and Tony Kanal are meant to be together. They could be the ultimate symbol of young lovers who went their separate ways, loved, lost, and reunited. It's like a where a Nicholas Sparks book meets a Cameron Crowe movie...
My favorite Gwen song.
