But last week, People Magazine reported that Ben wants Jen back. And that they were in Paris together looking affectionate. I totally believe this shit-- BECAUSE Ben Affleck's love life is ruled by his career. Allow me to break it down for you:
Think back to the height of the Ben 'n' Matt frenzy, in 1997, when Affleck was daiting Paltrow and Damon was seeing her friend Winona Ryder. "It was so gay," Affleck says in the eight-year-old-girl sense of the word. "If I had gone by the tabloid stories of it, I would have been like `Look at these fuckin' chumps. I just want to smack these people.' And I kind of wanted to smack myself," he admits. "But it's one of those things you kind of can't help. What are you going to say? `Look, dude, don't go out with her. It'll look really weak.'"
So Ben Affleck acknowledges that who he dates and who his friend dates could make him look "weak"-- which is a problem, because that could damage his public image and career. It may not have been enough to end his romance with Paltrow, but it clearly bugged him. CUT TO:
Ben meets Jennifer Lopez on the set of Gigli. She basically leaves her husband for him and Bennifer takes over the world. Gigli turns out to be a huge flop (probably the biggest of his career) and that Jenny from the Block video doesn't do him any favors. His career and his image are on a downward spiral and he ends his engagement to JLo. (Side note: I still believe Bennifer are meant to be)
thank you speech).
And then the coveted acting roles come in. Working with David Fincher in the highly anticipated Gone Girl and getting to play Batman in the next installment of the franchise. Life is good. So good that Affleck doesn't really want to be married anymore. Why deal with getting your ego bruised at home when you're one of the most in-demand actors and directors in the industry? Why not have sex with the hot nanny?

And then this happened:
Who cares if Batman VS Superman made a shit-ton of money. That doesn't change the fact that post-divorce, post-Batman Ben Affleck is an internet joke. Of course the guy wants Jennifer Garner back. She improved his image, and whether there's actually any correlation-- his career bounced back as well.
Personally, I think it's boring if these two get back together. It's too bad Kate Winslet is married, because dating her would probably get Affleck that best director Oscar.
