RIP: Chris Pratt & Anna Faris

This one is kind of a bummer, but after the initial shock wore off I'm not totally surprised by the news. Chris Pratt & Anna Faris's marriage experienced a term I just coined called a "cosmic success shift."

When Pratt & Faris first got together, she was the more successful person in the relationship. No one knew who he was. Eventually, he booked a role on Parks & Recreation and got more visibility, but she was still more famous than him. AND THEN Guardians of the Galaxy came out, became a blockbuster hit, and Pratt turned into a Tom Cruise caliber movie star. Meanwhile, she signed on for a role on a Chuck Lorre multi-cam. All of this happened around the same time that they had a child. So while he was off traveling the world and promoting his movies, she took a job that would keep her closer to home. Dare I say that this is what happens when you become a mom?

Perhaps after years of being the more successful person in the partnership, Faris decided it was Pratt's turn and she had to give him his time in the spotlight. And maybe he enjoyed the spotlight too much.
It's probably the cynic in me, but I can't help thinking that he got super famous, it's gone to his head, and he wants to spread his seed without being deemed a cheater for it. Don't be surprised if we hear rumors of him and another woman in the new few months. Just look at the discrepancy in their statements:

Pratt's statement
Anna and I are sad to announce we are legally separating. We tried hard for a long time, and we’re really disappointed. Our son has two parents who love him very much and for his sake we want to keep this situation as private as possible moving forward. We still have love for each other, will always cherish our time together and continue to have the deepest respect for one another.

Faris's statement

I'm definitely reading into things here, but "we still have love for each other" is not the same as "we still love each other." You might say its just semantics, but the former feels like a safer way to express affection for your ex without... pissing off your girl on the side. Faris left out that they continue to have the deepest respect for each other, cause it's kind of hard to respect a man who cheats.

This could be bad for Chris Pratt's career. His marriage with Faris was part of his appeal. Also, after watching Passengers, I'm not sure he's got as much longevity as a movie star as he may think. As for Faris, I hope this divorce gives her an opportunity to re-focus her energy on her career. Women in Hollywood who get dumped my their ultra-successful husbands often go on to win Oscars (see Nicole Kidman).
